Anchor of Hope

“When hopes dreams seem to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing. But when at last your dream comes true, life’s sweetness will satisfy your soul.” Proverbs 13:12

I put a smile on my face and walked through the door to a room full of friends who had all seen dreams come true in the last six months. One friend had gotten a promotion, another had gotten a new car, another a boyfriend who was dreamy and treated her like a princess, another friend had written a book, and another had just come back from speaking at a massive conference. Surrounded by success and dreams, I felt suffocated by it all.

…what had I accomplished?

By outward appearance, not much. I was still in debt, still single, living on my own with three cats (if that doesn’t make people snicker and call me the cat lady…), still working the same jobs. I was, by definition, stuck, at only 32 years old with seemingly no hope of much ahead.

I am so glad that I didn’t give up because what I didn’t know was that I was about to walk into the biggest season of my life, one that I had been unknowingly preparing for.

I had been faithful, and obedient. In moments of sadness, I was honest. In moments of frustration, I was on my living room floor in tears and surrender. In moments of deep mourning, I found myself saying “even in this, I trust You.”

Every time I made a hard decision, didn’t give up and kept moving forward. I was watering the hope that He had planted inside my heart.

Keeping hope alive in seasons of unknown is hard, but not impossible. We must believe that in our faithfulness He is good. We must believe that in our hard seasons, He is protective and watchful. We must believe that in our unknown, He knows.

“So it is impossible for God to lie for we know that his promise and his vow will never change! And now we have run into his heart to hide ourselves in his faithfulness. This is where we find his strength and comfort, for he empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time- an unshakeable hope! We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God himself.”
Hebrews 6:18-19

Can you see the beautiful picture of the hope in Jesus that we have? What He has spoken over you is true. What He has put in your heart are His promises for you. This anchor of hope is meant to keep us close to Him, when all else fails in our life, we hold onto to the anchor whose job it is to keep us steady.

He will never fail.
His promise and His vow will never change.
