Compassionate God
Father,
Your enormous capacity to have compassion on people is startling. You have extraordinary amounts for the lonely, the sick, the weak and the vulnerable. Your heart breaks for those who suffer.
What amazes me even further is your compassion that touches even my slight disappointments.
When a common cold keeps me home from a big event, a disheartening exam mark, the casserole burns, or my painting gets coffee smeared. Even in these moments, you send your compassion to proclaim comfort in my heart.
Not only do you carefully bind up the heart pieces desperately shattered, but you gently re-make the smallest heart cracks too. I am thankful you do not ask me to pretend I am not saddened by life circumstances, but instead you usher concern and kindness towards me that soothes my frustrations, big and small.
Please fill my heart with compassion for others that reflects yours for me.
“Shout for joy, O heavens! And rejoice, O earth! Break forth into joyful shouting, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people And will have compassion on His afflicted.”
Isaiah 49:13 NASB
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.”
2 Corinthians 1:3 NASB
