Introduction to Carmen

What if the practice of daily meditation could alter the way you live, feel, act and relate with God? Thank you, Carmen, for sharing your wisdom about the practice of meditation and the enormous difference it makes in your life.

Meditation Makes Me, Me.
By Carmen Kampman

Meditation, it’s a curious word and an often-misunderstood practice. In the Bible, one our earliest account of someone being intentional to meditate is found in Genesis 24:63, “One evening as he [Isaac] was walking and meditating in the fields, he looked up and saw the camels coming.” (Genesis 24:63, NLT)

Meditation is a regular practice in my life, and in the most straightforward form meditation is “to think upon” or to “focus one’s mind for a period of time for spiritual practices.” In a world that clamours for my attention, in a world that is always making more noise and asking for more things or telling me I need more, to still my mind is to think upon the one who deliberately created me for such a time as this. It’s a deliberate practice of focusing, of letting go, of being in the present love of Christ, of ceasing to strive, of remembering, of being reminded of that which is heavenly and pure. It’s a time to have my heart and mind quieted by the Spirit of God so that I can be positioned to hear that which God might want me to understand. Because meditation connects me and speaks to me in the deepest parts of who I am and whose I am, I am enabled and encouraged to live more presently, thoughtfully, and lovingly.

How should you start? Simply, for short periods of time, allowing your practice to grow.
