Planning to Thrive

Introduction to Kevin

I remember the day Kevin Nemetchek stopped me in my tracks and confronted me about my victim-mindset. I had been feeling badly for myself, scurrying out of the church doors when Kevin stopped to ask how I was doing. As we spoke, he began talking about his mindset shift and the new job he was beginning. That was one of the most transformative days of my life. God used Kevinā€™s determination to help me see the ways I had allowed discouragement to dominate my thoughts. That was the beginning of an attitude shift in my life that has released mountains of joy. Take a moment to read Kevinā€™s story, and be inspired and plan to thrive.

Planning to Thrive
By Kevin Nemetchek

Planning to thrive in life is important to me because it leads to the growth of becoming a better person. The effect of this is being someone who contributes more encouragement, and inspiration to those around me.

One way I plan to thrive is through determination. Determination to focus on the positive despite what can be overwhelming obstacles.

I have a physical disability, and a condition that has limited what I could do for work. I have pursued many job opportunities and it took me 7 years of determination to finally get one. Attending job fairs, applying for positions, getting post-secondary education, applying for more jobs, going to interviews, asking friends to pray, doing courses for potential employers to show them my skillsā€¦ It wasnā€™t always easy, it was a struggle at times to continue looking for a job. However, being determined has helped me thrive.

I was able to get a position at H&R Block Canada doing Regional Functional Support (technical support). I have been at it for four years now, and every shift I go in with the determination to serve every individual with joy and treat them, as I would want to be treated, with respect and understanding.

Determination is one way I intentionally plan to thrive. It has helped me overcome many challenges I have faced with my disability.

Every day, Iā€™m grateful to God for determination, because my life is more fulfilling and purposeful because of it.
